Our Story
Once upon a time in the spring of 2020, during the height of a global pandemic, several Black women came together in the land of Zoom to write through their experiences and build a long-lasting community. Their weekly The Words Between Us writing sessions came to a close, but they weren’t ready to say ‘goodbye’ — so they didn’t.
Most of the participants, including facilitator Alisha Acquaye, stayed in touch via social media, and even went on to create spaces for Black women writers outside of their loving Zoom room.
That’s pretty much how it goes. Co-Founders Ashley Reynolds and Savannah Bowen were eager to create their own literary community for Black women writers, with rest and sisterhood at the core.
